Pacific Palisades, CA - With rain wreaking havoc at the ITA All-American Championships, Georgia junior Nadja Gilchrist aims to play her main draw doubles match Thursday morning and then a singles qualifying match at 10:45 a.m.
Gilchrist and freshman Lilly Kimbell will face the 37th-ranked Yale duo of Vicky Brook and Lindsay Clark at 9 a.m. Thursday in the first round of the 24-team doubles main draw. The Bulldog tandem is 1-0 on the year and that win came over the same Yale team a few weeks ago at the Georgia Tech Invitational. The Gilchrist/Kimbell duo dispatched their Bulldog counterparts 8-2 on Sept. 19 in Atlanta.
On Wednesday, Gilchrist posted an impressive win in qualifying, rallying past the nation’s top-ranked freshman, Stanford’s Kristie Ahn. Gilchrist, who is ranked 31st nationally, defeated Ahn 2-6,7-5,6-1. She needs one more win to qualify for the main draw. Up next, she faces Duke senior Reka Zsilinska who is ranked No. 25. They squared off in the semifinals of the 2009 NCAA Team Championships in College Station, Texas. Zsilinska came out on top with a 6-2,6-4 decision as the Blue Devils defeated Georgia en route to a national title.
This grand slam event features the first national singles and doubles titles of the 2010-11 collegiate season.
