Memphis, TN - Valdosta State fell to Christian Brothers, 3-1 (25-13, 22-25, 25-23, 25-22), Saturday in the second match of a road trip. The loss drops VSU to 8-5 overall and 2-3 in the Gulf South Conference while Christian Brothers improves to 8-3 overall and an undefeated 3-0 in the GSC.
Nikki McDaniel and Tania Tauiliili teamed up to lead Valdosta State. Each player had 11 kills while Katie Onushko added nine. Three others had five kills in the match.
Hope Ripsam and Ashley Lala each gave out 19 assists while three Blazers reached double-digit digs. McDaniel doubled up with 10 digs while Chelsea Luttfring continued her excellent defensive season with 17 digs on the night. Krista Bradford added 10.
To add to the defensive effort, Tauiliili and Destiny Berry each had three block assists.
Despite winning the second set, Valdosta State's best offensive set came in the fourth and final set. The Blazers hit 12 kills with just six errors for a .214 attacking percentage, their best of the match. Valdosta State did, however, strike 17 kills in the third set and 13 kills in the second set, the set VSU won.
Hailey Gillis led CBU with 14 kills while Kelsey Miles gave out 45 assists. Miles doubled up with 11 digs, as did Gillis, but Kristina Headrick led the team with 16 digs.
Valdosta State will look to bounce back against Union at 4 p.m. Sunday in Jackson, Tenn.
