Tallahassee, FL - Junior outside hitter Visnja Djurdjevic of the Florida State University volleyball team has been named an honorable mention All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

Djurdjevic, who received the same honor last season as a sophomore at Tulane, was the standout performer for a Seminole squad that reached the second round of the NCAA Championship. The Zitiste, Serbia, native finished as the team leader with 410 kills, 3.42 kills per set, 36 service aces and 479 points. She was also second on the team with 357 digs.

Djurdjevic played in 31 of FSU’s 33 matches this year. She missed two matches against Wake Forest and Duke because of a death in her family, yet came back as resilient as ever with several outstanding performances , most notably her 25-kill, 16-dig showing against Miami on Nov. 26.

“This is a great honor for Visnja and well deserved,” head coach Chris Poole said. “She met with a lot of adversity this fall and trying to keep up with her studies and volleyball during this period in her life. The honorable mention All-American recognition just shows how great a player she is and certainly she did a lot of great things for us this season.”

The talented outside hitter led the Seminoles with 15 double-doubles. She finished the season as one of just three players in the Atlantic Coast Conference who were in the Top five in per-set categories of kills, service aces and points.

With a wealth of returning players back in 2011, Djurdjevic will be just one of several key pieces that can help FSU build on its back-to-back NCAA postseason appearances.

“We are looking forward to the spring and hoping we can build on this last season,” Poole added. “We have a lot returning and Visnja will certainly be a key player for us in her senior season.”

The ACC finished with 13 student-athletes named to either AVCA All-America or honorable mention teams. Two players in Duke setter Kellie Catanach and Miami outside hitter Lane Carico were named to the AVCA All-America Third Team, marking the first time since 2003 that multiple players made either first, second or third team All-America.
