Tulsa, OK - Georgia men’s tennis junior Sadio Doumbia won his third straight singles qualifying match to earn a spot in the main draw of the ITA/D’Novo All-American Championships in Tulsa.
Doumbia faced off against Grant Ive from the host Tulsa squad, and after going down 3-0 in the first set rallied to win 6-3, 6-1 in third round action Wednesday morning at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. The win moves Doumbia to 6-1 in singles on the season.
“It was a tough start being down 3-0 but then Sadio caught fire and almost won 12 straight games,” said associate head coach Will Glenn. “He played well. He started playing more aggressively and really played one of his better matches since he got to Georgia. His confidence is really starting to come.”
Doumbia’s victory sends him into the main draw beginning tomorrow, where he will join senior teammate Javier Garrapiz. The draw will be announced later this afternoon.
