TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 25, 2012) - Tallahassee Community College has named its Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year for the 2011-12 academic year.
The Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year is Matt Duval, a member of Tallahassee’s baseball team. Megan Oster, a member of Tallahassee’s softball team, is the Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Duval is a second-year participant from High Springs, Fla. In 2011, he was named to both the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) and Panhandle Conference’s (PC) All-Academic Team. He’s also been named to the President’s List each semester while enrolled at TCC.
On the field, he has appeared in 20 games in 2012 and posted a .346 batting average. Over two seasons, he has played in 58 games, primarily at either first base or third base.
Duval plans to transfer to Florida State University this fall.
Oster, a second-year participant from Clermont, Fla., has also earned numerous academic honors while at TCC. Like Duval, she earned all-academic honors from both the FCSAA and PC in 2011 and has earned either Dean's List or President's List recognition during each semester at the College.
This season, Oster has started all 44 games as the Eagles' everyday second baseman, compiling a .318 batting average with three home runs and 18 RBI. Those numbers helped her earn honorable mention All-PC recognition from league coaches for the second straight season. As a freshman, she appeared in 44 games and batted .286 with one home run and ten RBI, helping the Eagles to the NJCAA Region 8B/FCSAA Gulf District Championship and a third-place finish at the NJCAA Tournament.
Oster has signed an NCAA letter of intent with Morehead State University.
Duval will graduate from TCC on Saturday evening while Oster will wrap up her academic work during the summer term.
