On the football field we have a new national champ from a familiar conference. For the 7th time since 1997, the southeastern conference has captured a college football national title. The most recent champ has quite the story.

5 straight bcs bowl games have now gone to the southeastern conference... The latest form of perfection comes from the auburn tigers their (14-0) Record this year came with a 22-19 victory against the 2nd ranked oregon ducks on college football's biggest stage.

In a season marked by underestimations, distractions and celebrations, the tigers stayed on course and delivered the school's 3rd perfect season season 1993.

“Don't feel sorry for me because throughout this year no body felt sorry for auburn... But we got the last laugh,” said Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Cameron Newton.

And lost in the attention given to heisman trophy winner cameron newton or to freshman runningback michael dyer's 143 yard rushing performance is the fact that gene chizik becomes just the 8th man ever to win a national title in at most his 2nd season as head coach...

Defied the odds... 15 weeks ago, nobody believed in us but us.. i feel very blessed."

No matter how you tell the story, when wes byrum nailed a 19 yard field goal to win the bcs for auburn, the tigers had finally closed the book on their first football title since 1957.
