TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Two of Florida State's strengths in 2013 will surely be its veteran offensive line and depth at defensive tackle so it's only fitting that both were recognized by the announcement of the 2013 Outland Trophy Watch List Thursday morning.
FSU put a nation's-best four student-athletes on the list for an award that is annually given to college football's premier interior defensive or offensive linemen. The list this pre-season includes Seminoles standouts Bryan Stork (center), Cameron Erving (offensive tackle), Tre' Jackson (guard) and Timmy Jernigan (defensive tackle).
Stork already this week has been named to the Rimington Tophy Watch List for the nation's best center. Jernigan was already recognized as a member of the watch list for the Bednarik Award and also on Thursday was included on the watch list for the 2013 Bronko Nagurski Award.
Erving is entering his fourth season at FSU but just his second on the offensive line after making the permanent switch from defensive tackle to left tackle prior to the 2012 campaign. And it was a change that proved worth it as the redshirt junior enters the 2013 season as one of the country's top left tackles after starting every game last year protecting EJ Manuel's blind spot.
As for Jackson, the true junior made a name for himself last season as a consistent and dominant starter at right guard in all 14 of the Seminoles' games.
Like Jernigan, Lamarcus Joyner and Christian Jones were also named to the Nagursky Trophy Watch List Thursday.
And like the Bednarik Award, which Joyner and Jones were also named to watch lists for earlier this week, the Nagursky Trophy is awarded to the top defensive player in the nation at year's end.
