TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Coming off a national runner-up finish and a conference title, Florida State was chosen to repeat as the Atlantic Coast Conference women’s soccer champion in 2014 as voted on by the league’s 14 head coaches.
The Seminoles received eight first-place votes en route to 189 total points, followed by Virginia (five first-place votes, 183 points) and North Carolina (one first-place vote, 166 points).
Florida State, who set the school record with 23-victories a season ago, return 14 letterwinners and nine starters from last year’s squad that captured its second league crown in the last three years.
Virginia Tech placed fourth in the voting, followed by Duke, Notre Dame and Wake Forest. Boston College placed eighth, while Clemson, Louisville, Syracuse, Miami, NC State and Pitt rounded out the field.
The Seminoles also placed two student-athletes on the inaugural Coaches’ Preseason All-ACC Team which included seniors Dagny Brynjarsdottir (Hella, Iceland) and Kristin Grubka (Melbourne, Florida). The preseason team featured 11 players including one goalkeeper and 10 field players. Florida State and Virginia were the only two schools to feature multiple players on the Preseason All-ACC Team.
Florida State will open the 2014 campaign on Friday, August 22 as they host Portland at 7:00 p.m. inside the Seminole Soccer Complex.
