Tallahassee, FL -- May 28, 2012 --

The NCAA announced on Monday, May 28 the field of 64 for the 2012 NCAA Baseball Championship. Florida State earned an at-large bid out of the Atlantic Coast Conference after finishing the regular season atop the Atlantic Division standings with a 24-6 record tying the league mark for wins.

The Seminoles, who earned the No. 3 overall national seed, will serve as the No. 1 seed in the Tallahassee Regional and will be joined by No. 2 Mississippi State (39-22), No. 3 Samford (39-21) and No. 4 UAB (32-28). Play will begin on Friday, June 1.

"It is certainly a tough regional," said head coach Mike Martin. "No doubt when you have three conference champions, one of course from the SEC who is playing extremely well right now, all of which are on a roll heading into Tallahassee. It should be a very interesting regional with outstanding baseball."

Florida State will be making its 35th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Baseball Tournament and 50th overall including 33 straight appearances under Martin. The Seminoles have posted an overall record of 167-111 in NCAA Tournament play.

FSU is serving as a regional host for the 29th time in school history. The Seminoles put together an impressive regular season resume, which included a 12-5 record against ranked teams and a 21-11 mark against the Top 50 RPI teams. Only two other schools in the country had more wins against the Top 50.

In all, FSU coach Mike Martin's team amassed a 14-8 record against seven opponents who are included in this season's 64-team NCAA field.

"I am just proud of our young men and what they accomplished (this year)," said Martin on the NCAA Committee recognizing the Seminoles with a No. 3 overall seed. "To see that they were the third seed in the country is a credit to them and their hard work."

Mississippi State received an automatic bid into the tournament as champions of the Southeastern Conference and is the No. 2 seed in this week's regional. The Bulldogs finished the regular season tied for second in the SEC West Division. Mississippi State wrapped up the regular season with a record of 39-22 and head to Tallahassee having won eight of its last 10 games. Florida State and Mississippi State have met on 12 previous occasions with both schools winning six times. The Bulldogs own a 6-4 record against the Seminoles in NCAA Tournament play.

Samford also received an automatic bid after claiming the Southern Conference tournament this past weekend in Greenville, S.C. The Bulldogs earned the No. 3 seed in the Tallahassee Regional. Samford finished the regular season in fourth place in the SoCon with an overall record of 39-21, but swept through its conference tournament with four consecutive wins. Samford is making its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance in school history. The Seminoles lead the all-time series against the Bulldogs at 16-1 with their last meeting dating back to 1989.

UAB completes this year's four-team field earning the No. 4 seed in the Tallahassee Regional. The Blazers finished the regular season with a record of 32-28 and received an automatic bid by virtue of winning their first Conference USA title. Florida State and UAB have met just once before that coming in 1988 as the Seminoles defeated the Blazers 10-4.

"They are very well coached," added Martin on facing UAB in the opening round. "It is going to be as good a regional as there is in the country because all of these teams are known for their baseball programs."

Every game of the Tallahassee Regional will air live on ESPN3, while Saturday's winner bracket game will broadcast live on ESPN2.

The Tallahassee Regional is paired up with the Palo Alto, California Regional as the winners from both regional sites will square-off in a best-of-three series beginning on either Friday, June 8 or Saturday, June 9. The four schools competing in the Palo Alto Regional include Stanford (38-16), Pepperdine (34-21), Michigan State (37-21) and Fresno State (30-26).
