Gainesville, FL - University of Florida head softball coach Tim Walton
announced the signing of six future Gators to national letters of intent
Thursday. Floridians Alyssa Bache, Bailey Castro and Sami Fagan will
unite with three out-of-staters, Jessica Damico (Missouri), Lauren
Haeger (Arizona) and Katie Medina (California) to compose this year’s
signing class, which will suit up for the Orange and Blue starting the

Clearwater, Fla. (East Lake High School)
Travel Club: Gold Coast Hurricanes, coached by Marty Cooper
A pitcher from the Sunshine State, Bache has twice been voted the
Miracle Sports Pitcher of the Year (2008, 2009). The East Lake High
School senior was named the Pinellas County and All-Suncoast Pitcher of the Year her freshman, sophomore and junior seasons, was the Pinellas County Athletic Conference Champion and led her teams to the District Championship in 2008, 2009 and 2010. Bache recorded her first perfect game in 2008 and registered a 0.98 ERA. Her sophomore season, Bache tallied 297 strikeouts, had a 0.52 ERA and batted .424 on her way to No. 7 in the ESPN Rise rankings. Bache broke out her junior season at East Lake High School, registered a 0.57 ERA, with 220 strikeouts, and checked in at No. 4 in the 2010 ESPN Rise rankings. On March 12, 2010, Bache pitched a 17-inning game, was perfect through 11 innings and retired 37 batters by strikeout.
Pembroke Pines, Fla. (American Heritage)
Travel Club: Gold Coast Hurricanes, coached by Marty Cooper
Castro, a third baseman for American Heritage High School, helped lead
the Patriots to back-to-back state championships her freshman and
sophomore seasons in 2008 and 2009. As a varsity starter for the
Patriots, Castro had 44 RBI, 30 runs and 12 home runs last season. She was named the Broward Class 3A Player of the Year in both 2008 and 2010 and picked up First Team All-County honors in 2009.
Gray Summit, Mo. (Pacific)
Travel Club: St. Louis Chaos, coached by Bob Furrer
A senior at Pacific High School, Damico has been racking up awards since her freshman year. She holds single season records in at bats, hits, batting average, homeruns, runs, singles, doubles and triples. Damico has tallied 313 at bats, 165 hits, a .524 batting average, 118 RBI, 139 runs, 38 stolen bases, 36 doubles, 13 triples, 87 singles and 29 homeruns under high school coach Traci Dewart. She additionally holds the Missouri single-season homerun record (15) and played in the ESPN Rise Under Armour All-America Softball Games in both 2009 and 2010. Damico was named an All-Conference selection each year of her high school career, was the conference Player of the Year in 2009 and 2010, an All-District selection in 2008, 2009 and 2010 and collected
All-Region and All-State honors in both 2009 and 2010. A three-sport
athlete at Pacific, Damico plays varsity basketball and is a First Team
All-Conference track selection, as well as a two-time state qualifier in
the 4x100 and 4x200 relays. Damico is a member of the Honor Roll.
Dunnellon, Fla. (Dunnellon)
Travel Club: Team North Florida, coached by Kevin Fagan
Fagan, a Dunnellon High School product, on the playing field, but in the classroom. A 2009-10 All-State
selection, Fagan was named a 2009 First Team NFCA All-American, while picking up Third Team NFCA All-American honors her junior season in 2010. In her career, had a 63-game hitting streak, the best in the state of Florida at the time, which also ranked second in the nation. Fagan helped lead Dunnellon to the 2010 Class 4A Florida State Championship Title and led Team North Florida to the runner-up spot at the 2010 ASA Gold Nationals. Fagan is ranked third in her graduating class of 318, has maintained a 4.0 GPA through her high school career.
Peoria, Ariz. (Deer Valley)
Travel Club: Arizona Hotshots, coached by Blaize Gatti
A pitcher and first baseman from Glendale, Ariz., Haeger is currently a
senior at Deer Valley High School. Haeger most recently played on the
2010 USA Junior National softball team that won gold at the Pan-American Games in Bogota, Colombia. She has three times been named First Team All-Region and twice been named Regional Player of the Year (2009, 2010). Her sophomore season in 2009, Haeger led the Skyhawks to runner-up status at the state softball tournament on her way to First Team All-State honors, while also picking up 2010 First Team All-Arizona accolades in 2010 as a junior. Haeger plays club softball with the Arizona Hotshots, who took third at ASA Nationals in 2008. A three-sport letterwinner in softball, volleyball and basketball, Haeger was also tabbed a volleyball First Team All-Region selection her junior and senior seasons, while picking up volleyball Honorable Mention All-Region honors her sophomore season. She additionally helped the Skyhawk basketball team to a second-place standing in the state tournament as a sophomore.
Downey, Calif. (Downey)
Travel Club: Worth Firecrackers, coached by Tony Rico
A shortstop from Downey, Calif., Medina picked up First Team All-League honors for her high school conference, SGVL, in 2009 and was named a Second Team All-League selection in 2010. Medina is a two-time Softball Scholar Athlete Award winner and a three-time Golden Glove Award winner. A black belt in karate, she was named a Press Telegram Softball Dream Team Player in 2010, a Second Team Softball Dream Team selection in 2008, and as a two-sport athlete in softball and tennis, Medina, also the varsity tennis captain, played her way to an undefeated record of 33-0 in doubles last season. Her doubles team took second in 2009 in the league tournament and she was named a Press Telegram Tennis Dream Team Honorable Mention selection. Medina, who plays travel softball with the Worth Firecrackers, helped the Firecrackers to third place at the ASA Nationals in 2009 and back-to-back Canada Cup Championships in 2009 and 2010.
