Tallahassee, FL - After a memorable weekend in which both the men and women won Atlantic Coast Conference Championships, the Florida State cross country programs experienced a jump in this week’s USTFCCCA NCAA Division I National Cross Country Coaches' Poll.
Men’s coach Bob Braman’s squad experienced the biggest leap in the poll thanks to winning the first-ever league title on the men’s side.
After tying the school record in the previous poll with a No. 8 national ranking, the Seminoles officially broke that mark with a No. 6 slot this week.
“Certainly we are experiencing some momentum after winning ACCs,” Braman said. “It is an accomplishment to earn the highest ranking ever and I know the guys are very proud. Now we experience the real challenge of keeping that momentum up as we get closer to NCAAs.”
On the women’s side, head coach Karen Harvey’s team continued its ACC dominance with a fourth-straight league title.
In doing so, FSU rose from No. 3 in the poll to No. 2 where it was ranked previously this year.
“The competition is getting hotter and hotter in the top top,” Harvey said. “A bunch of teams showed some big improvements this past weekend and it really shook up the rankings. We are inching forward and aiming for our best race to be at NCAAs."
Before heading to the NCAA Cross Country Championships in Terra Haute, Ind. on Nov. 22, Florida State will compete next weekend in Birmingham, Ala. at South Regionals on Nov. 13.
