Tallahassee, FL - The 34th FSU Relays came to a premature conclusion Saturday at Mike Long Track when inclement weather brought the competition to a halt midway through the schedule.

Only five collegiate events were completed on a day that included a 2 ½-hour weather delay in the morning.

“It was really a good meet for high schools and colleges and unfortunately we couldn’t finish it,” … “We were disappointed we couldn’t take advantage of it the meet and get our work it. It is a credit to our facilities staff that we got any competition in.”

Florida State senior Jeff Pelage delivered the Seminoles their third win of the two-day meet, capturing the discus with a throw of 48.85 meters (160-3). Junior Stargell Williams also placed seventh (45.53m/149-4).

Beyond Pelage’s victory, two FSU women delivered encouraging performances. Freshman Stacey Drilling registered her collegiate-best performance in the high jump, placing second after clearing 1.63 meters (5-4.25); her best showing indoors or outdoors in seven meets.

Redshirt junior Izehi Ileso, a former junior college national champion in the triple jump, came through with her best effort in five meets as a Seminole. Ileso’s leap of 12.00 meters (39-4.50) was good for a fifth-place finish.

The Seminoles failed to place runners in either the men’s or women’s 200-meter dash events.

With the abbreviated home performance behind them, the Seminoles will split up for two of the most prestigious meets in the nation this coming week, with the sprinters and field event athletes heading to the Texas Relays. The distance teams will travel to the Stanford Invitational.
