Athens, GA - On the heels of a 196.725 and a 196.650 last week, the Georgia gymnastics team moved up two spots to No. 3 in this week’s edition of the GymInfo Top 25. Rankings are based on a team’s average score, and the Gym Dogs raised their average to a 196.188.
Florida remained No. 1 with a 196.708 followed by Stanford (196.413), Georgia, Utah (195.933), Oklahoma (195.781), Alabama (195.525), Oregon State (195.338), Michigan (195.167), UCLA (195.119) and Nebraska (195.050) to round out the top 10.
In the team event rankings, Georgia is ranked in the top five of all four events. The Gym Dogs are third on beam with a 49.006 average, fourth on floor with a 40.050 average, and fifth on vault (49.075) and bars (49.056). Georgia is one of only two teams to be ranked in the top five on all four events.
Georgia freshman Lindsey Cheek scored a 39.550 to win the all-around against Auburn on Saturday, tying the three other gymnasts for the highest all-around score in the country this season. The Watkinsville, Ga., native also scored a 9.925 in her first career routine on the uneven bars Saturday. Following Cheek, Georgia’s Kat Ding ranks second nationally on bars with a 9.917 average, while Gina Nuccio is third with a 9.908 average.
Senior Cassidy McComb ranks fourth on floor with a 9.888 and 15th in the all-around with a 39.119. Cheek is tied for eighth on vault with a 9.888 average, and sophomore Shayla Worley is 12th on beam at 9.842.
Georgia (5-1, 1-0 SEC) returns to action Friday at Kentucky at 7:00 p.m. The Gym Dogs own two of the top four overall team scores so far this season.
