Athens, GA -- After moving its season mark to 35-12 and its conference record to 13-9, the University of Georgia softball team ranked No. 12 in the USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) and in the Softball polls released Tuesday.

California remained as the No. 1 ranking in the USA Today/NFCA poll with Florida behind at the second spot. Arizona State takes the third slot followed by Alabama at No. 4 and Oklahoma at No. 5.

California also claims the No. 1 spot in the Softball poll while Arizona State grabs No. 2. Alabama follows at No. 3 as Florida and Oklahoma round out the top five.

Georgia took a 7-4 win over then-No. 2 Alabama last weekend before falling 8-3 and 6-4 in the final two games. The Bulldogs handed Crimson Tide pitcher Jackie Traina her first loss of the season after getting six hits and three walks off of the sophomore. With the win, Georgia snapped Traina’s 28-game win streak, as her last loss also came to Georgia in the 2011 SEC Tournament.

Freshman Paige Wilson led the charge, as she posted a .600 batting average for the weekend on her way to being named SEC Freshman of the Week for this third time this season. It is the first time in Georgia history that a rookie has been given the honor three times in one season. The Chicago native tallied six hits, including two home runs and a double, four runs and five RBI.

The Bulldogs return to action in Athens on Wednesday, April 25 against Kennesaw State at 6:30 p.m. before traveling to Baton Rouge for a three-game series versus No. 23 LSU starting on Friday, April 27 at 7 p.m. ET.
