Georgia’s Aaron Murray Named SEC Freshman Of The Week

Athens, GA - Georgia freshman quarterback Aaron Murray has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman Player of the Week, according to a league announcement on Monday.

Murray, a 6-1 native of Tampa, Fla., led the Bulldogs to a 41-14 rout of Tennessee in Sanford Stadium over the weekend. Murray went 17-of-25 for 266 yards and a pair of touchdowns with no interceptions. He also accounted for a pair of rushing scores, including a career-long 35-yard scamper through the Volunteer defense.

Murray connected with seven different receivers as Georgia accumulated 402 total yards on offense. While posting a career-best passing efficiency of 183.8 against Tennessee, Murray directed Georgia to scores on seven of 11 drives and helped the Bulldogs go 6-for-6 in Red Zone chances.

This is Georgia’s first SEC weekly football award of the 2010 season.

The Bulldogs (2-4, 1-3 SEC) host Vanderbilt (2-3, 1-1) for Homecoming on Oct. 16 at 12:21 p.m. Georgia’s game will be televised for the second consecutive week on the SEC Network.
