Athens, GA - Georgia junior Kristie Krueger was named the Southeastern Conference Cross Country Female Athlete of the Week for the second time this season after her dominating finish at the NCAA Pre-Nationals over the weekend, according to a league announcement.
Krueger, a 5-7 native of Argyle, Texas, registered a career-best time of 20:30.1 to finish ninth out of 274 competitors at the 6k NCAA Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind. This was the best finish by an SEC runner by 35 spots and helped set the tone for the coming SEC Championships.
After clocking the second-best 6k time in the league this season, Krueger boosted her team into a 17th-place finish at the meet, which is a two-spot improvement from its 2009 finish. Her finish marks the best place and best time by a Georgia woman in the last five seasons at the NCAA Pre-Nationals.
Krueger has now led the Lady Bulldogs in all three meets she has competed in with a trio of top-10 finishes.
This is Kruger’s second SEC honor of the year after she also won the award following her victory at the season-opening Georgia Cross Country Invitational in Bishop on Sept. 4.
Georgia joins with the other teams in the conference for the SEC Championships in Columbia, S.C., on Monday, Nov. 1.
