Athens, GA - Georgia’s Allison Schmitt has been chosen as the Counsilman-Hunsaker Division I National Swimmer of the Week, CollegeSwimming.com announced on Wednesday.
Schmitt, a junior from Canton, Mich., helped No. 2 Georgia defeat No. 3 Texas Saturday at Gabrielsen Natatorium to improve to 7-0 and extend its streak of consecutive victories at home to 73 dating back to the 1995-96 season.
Schmitt won the 200 freestyle in 1:47.19 and the 500 freestyle in 4:50.29, and she anchored the victorious 400 freestyle relay that had a time of 3:20.91. Schmitt came in second in the 100 freestyle in 50.44.
On Tuesday, Schmitt was named the Southeastern Conference Female Swimmer of the Week.
Schmitt won the 500 freestyle titles at the NCAA Championships in 2009 and 2010, and she claimed the 200 freestyle crown last year. Schmitt also boasts SEC titles in the 200 and 500 freestyles. She holds the school records in each event.
Georgia’s teams will travel to Knoxville on Saturday. The Bulldogs will face Tennessee and Indiana at noon, and the Lady Bulldogs will take on Tennessee at 4 p.m.
