Tallahassee, FL - Ronita Garrett scored 31 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to lead Georgia Perimeter College (6-5) to a 65-50 upset of NJCAA No. 22/FCSAA No. 4 Tallahassee Community College on Friday evening at the Comfort Inn Holiday Classic.

Garrett did all of her damage from the floor, hitting 14-of-21 field goal attempts overall and 3-of-5 from long distance.

The loss snapped Tallahassee’s (10-3) winning streak at six heading into Saturday’s final Panhandle Conference tuneup, a 5:30 p.m. tilt against the College of Central Florida.

Early on, Tallahassee looked like anything but a team playing for the first time in three weeks. The Lady Eagles scored the first five points and Yanique Gordon’s basket put the home team in front, 13-4, just over six minutes into the game.

On Georgia Perimeter’s ensuring possession, Garrett knocked down her first three-pointer of the evening and the Jaguars outscored Tallahassee, 31-8, over the final 13 minutes of the half to carry a 35-21 lead to the locker room.

After Leah Spears scored the first points of the second half to give Georgia Perimeter a 37-21 lead, Tallahassee stormed back. A 10-0 run, capped by Addesha Collins’ three-pointer pulled the Lady Eagles within six (37-31) at the 17:02 mark.

Two minutes later, Sarah Williams converted a Georgia Perimeter turnover into two points to make the score 39-35 but that was as close as Tallahassee would get. Georgia Perimeter scored the next six points, the last four on consecutive baskets by Garrett, to regain the momentum.

Neither team shot particularly well – Tallahassee hit 31.8 percent (21-of-66); Georgia Perimeter, 36.9 percent (27-of-73) – but the Lady Eagles committed 25 turnovers, nine more than the Jaguars. Georgia Perimeter promptly converted the miscues into 18 points.

Collins was the only Tallahassee player in double-figures with 13 points. Karley Barnes added eight points and 11 rebounds.

Larissa Stafford was the only other Jaguar in double-digits with 10 points – all in the second half.

Indian River State College defeated Central Florida, 53-39, in Friday’s first game and will play Georgia Perimeter in Saturday’s 1 p.m. game.
