Lady Rattlers Tame B-CU Wildcats 76-60 For MEAC Win

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Jan. 7) - The Florida A&M Women's Basketball Team began Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play with a win, as the Lady Rattlers defeated arch rival Bethune-Cookman, 76-60 here Monday night at the Al Lawson Center.

FAMU (4-10, 1-0 MEAC) had a pair of Lady Rattlers to score 20-plus points as Jasmine Grice scored a game-high 22 points, followed by Kimberly Sparkman with 21. Also both Andreya Lacy and Patrice Collie finished in double-digit scoring for FAMU as Lacy scored a career-high 13 points and Collie added 10. Collie also led the Lady Rattlers on the boards with eight and both Lacy and Collie finished with three assists each.

B-CU (5-8, 0-1 MEAC) had a pair of Lady Wildcats to score in double-digits as Chasity Rene` Taylor finished with a team high 18 points, while Amanda Hairston recorded a double-double as she scored 12 points and pulled down 13 rebounds.

FAMU jumped out to an 11-4 lead as Grice made a layup with 14:58 to go in the first.

The Lady Wildcats would fight and claw their way back in the game as they cut the Lady Rattlers' lead to 22-20 on a Hairston layup with 6:13 to go, capping a 10-4 run by B-CU.

FAMU would close out the half with an 11-6 run as Sparkman nailed a three pointer with 2:15 to go in the half, giving the Lady Rattler a 33-26 lead at the break.

The Lady Rattlers would finished the first half shooting 46.4 percent (13-of-28), where as the Lady Wildcats shot 30.0 percent (9-of-30).

B-CU opened the second half with a 10-4 run as they took a 37-36 lead on a Terrenisha Hollis layup with 15:07 left in the contest.

The Lady Rattlers would then use a 10-2 run as Collie knocked down a pair of free throws with 7:06 left in the game, giving FAMU a 58-49 lead.

In the final seven minutes the Lady Rattlers defense would only allow 12 more points as FAMU pulled away for the win.

FAMU finished the game shooting 47.3 percent (26-of-55), while B-CU shot 41.8 percent (23-of-55) from the field. The Lady Wildcats controlled the boards in the contest by a 47-23 margin.
