Tallahassee. FL - The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) released its weekly poll on Wednesday and Tallahassee Community College moved up two spots to No. 8.
The Lady Eagles, off to a 4-0 start, were ranked No. 10 last week, the first regular season poll of the 2010-11 season, after debuting at No. 29 in the NJCAA's preseason rankings.
Tallahassee is one of three Panhandle Conference schools in the top eight, although there was significant movement between the top two teams.
Defending national champion Gulf Coast Community College fell three spots to No. 4 after dropping a 92-86 decision to previously unranked Vincennes (Ind.) University on November 20. The Lady Commodores’ loss opened the door for Pensacola State College, who moved into the No. 1 spot.
The order of rank in the NJCAA poll mirrors this week’s Florida Community College Activities Association's (FCCAA) Women's Basketball Coaches' Poll, which has Pensacola State, Gulf Coast and Tallahassee ranked one through three, respectively.
Two other Florida schools are in this week's NJCAA Top 25 - No. 20 College of Central Florida and No. 25 Chipola College, which gives the PC four schools in the national poll.
A sixth Florida school - Indian River State College - received votes.
Tallahassee will return to action on Friday, November 26 in Decatur, Ga., at the Georgia Perimeter College Classic. The Lady Eagles will play Wallace State (Ala.) Community College-Hanceville at 4 p.m. Friday followed by a 6 p.m. tilt against host Georgia Perimeter College on Saturday.
