TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (December 8, 2010) – Tallahassee Community College’s women’s basketball team rebounded from its first loss of the 2010-11 season by winning two games at last weekend’s Florida College’s Women’s Basketball Shootout.
Victories over Indian River State College and Palm Beach State College improved the Lady Eagles’ record to 7-1. The wins also kept Tallahassee’s spot in the FCCAA and NJCAA polls intact.
The National Junior College Athletic Association released its Division I Women’s Basketball Poll on Wednesday and Tallahassee was ranked No. 13 for a second straight week. On Tuesday, the Lady Eagles maintained their No. 3 ranking in the Florida Community College Activities Association’s Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Poll for a fourth consecutive week.
Both polls continue to be dominated by the five Panhandle Conference schools.
All five teams are ranked in the NJCAA poll for a second straight week, led by No. 1 Pensacola State College. Gulf Coast Community College is ranked No. 4 while Chipola College and Northwest Florida State College are No. 16 and No. 18, respectively.
Only one other region – Region XVIII – had as many as three teams in the Top 25.
The PC quintet also makes up the top five spots in the FCCAA rankings, again led by No. 1 Pensacola State. Gulf Coast is ranked No. 2 followed by Tallahassee. Northwest Florida State and Chipola are tied for No. 4.
Following the conclusion of final exam week on Friday, Tallahassee will hit the road for a pair of games in south Florida.
The Lady Eagles will play Miami Dade College at 2 p.m. Saturday. Following an off day, Tallahassee will play Broward College at 4 p.m. Monday.
