Oklahoma City, OK -- Two ‘noles, a bulldog, a gator and even a hurricane landed on the 2011 Jim Thorpe Award watch list.
FSU junior cornerbacks Greg Reid and Xavier Rhodes were both selections for the accolade, which honors the nation’s best defensive back. The secondary duo also represented the garnet and gold on watch lists for the Bednarik Award, given annually to the top defensive player in the country.
FSU players have been abundant throughout the pre-season predictions. Thus far, seven players have been nominated for seven different awards with five more national awards yet to reveal their preseason lists.
Not to be outdone, the Georgia Bulldogs have made their presence felt. UGA currently has eight players spread out over nine different awards for the preseason watch list. Senior cornerback Brandon Boykin not only earned recognition for the Thorpe Award, but the Bednarik and Nargurski trophies as well.
Florida’s sophomore safety Matt Elam and Miami junior Ray-Ray Armstrong were also named to the Thorpe watch list.
