Gainesville, FL - The No. 12 University of Florida soccer team
(12-2-2, 6-1-1 SEC) begins its final full week of Southeastern
Conference action Thursday, Oct. 21 when it meets SEC Western Division leader LSU (6-6-4, 3-2-3 SEC) in Baton Rouge, La. Start time is set for 8 p.m. at the LSU Soccer Complex. Every SEC program will play a home and an away match during this final full week of league action. Florida returns home to play host to Arkansas for its final home appearance on Sunday, Oct. 24.
Florida used a pair of goals in each half to post a 4-0 win over LSU
when the teams met in Gainesville in 2009. McKenzie Barney scored the first and final goals of the match, with Sarah Chapman and Brooke
Thigpen also turning in goals.
Three different Gators contributed the six goals scored in Florida’s
two home wins versus SEC Eastern Division rivals last weekend. Florida
opened the weekend Friday with a 4-2 win over Tennessee. Gator juniors Tahnai Annis and Lindsay Thompson each turned in their fourth career double-goal matches. Annis now leads the SEC with 10 goals this season.
In Sunday’s 2-1 overtime win versus No. 21 Georgia, the Gators trailed
in the opening half for the first time this season after the Bulldogs
scored in the 12th minute. Sophomore Erika Tymrak provided the tying
goal in the 82nd minute and then hit a 23-yard golden goal strike in the
97th minute. Tymrak and Thompson each picked up weekly honors on Monday as Tymrak was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week and Thompson is part of the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week.
The Tigers opened last weekend with a 0-0 2OT at Mississippi. It was
the seventh shutout for LSU in 2010. On Sunday, the Tigers defeated
Mississippi State 6-2 for their highest offensive output since their
season-opening 8-0 win over South Alabama. Junior midfielder Natalie
Martineau (5 goals, 1 assist) leads LSU this season with 11 points.
