Tallahassee, FL - FCSAA No. 2 Pensacola State College scored 44 second-half points and defeated No. 9 Tallahassee Community College, 71-57, on Saturday evening at the Bill Hebrock Eagledome in the regular season finale for both teams.
Pensacola State (23-4) locked up a share of the Panhandle Conference Championship with the victory, along with Gulf Coast State College, who beat Chipola College, 75-51. Both teams finished 9-3 in league play, but Gulf Coast State, by virtue of winning the head-to-head tie-breaker with Pensacola State, will get the PC's No. 1 seed at the NJCAA Region VIII/FCSAA Tournament. Pensacola State will enter tournament play as the PC's No. 2 seed.
Tallahassee, meanwhile, ended the season on a 12-game losing streak and finished 11-15 (0-12 PC).
Pensacola State only led by two, 27-25, at the half but outscored Tallahassee 44-32 in the final 20 minutes. The Lady Pirates also dominated the glass to the tune of a 48-31 advantage.
Shanequa Phifer, one of five sophomores recognized prior to the start of Saturday's game, scored 16 points and pulled down ten rebounds for her first career double-double.
Sarah Williams led Tallahassee with 20 points.
Other sophomores recognized on Saturday included: Alyssa Aitken, Christina Solmon, Jasmine Floyd and Ashley Alexander.
Ronika Ransford led all scorers with 32 points for Pensacola State.
