Tallahassee, FL -- May 4, 2012 --
Florida State's James Ramsey and Peter Miller were named to the 2012 Capital One Baseball Academic All-District ® IV first team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Ramsey and Miller were recognized as two of the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom this year. Florida State and Georgia Tech were the only two schools in District IV to place multiple student-athletes on the 11-member team.
Ramsey is in the midst of a spectacular senior season in which he leads Florida State in runs scored (55), home runs (9), triples (6), total bases (108), slugging percentage (.706 and on-base percentage (.527).
The senior captain, who is hitting .392 in 44 games this year, has also played tremendous defensive in centerfield since making the move to that position at the beginning of the season after serving as the Seminoles' starting right fielder the last two years. Ramsey has posted a perfect fielding percentage in 101 chances, while tallying a team-high four outfield assists.
In the classroom, Ramsey was named a first team Academic All-American by CoSIDA/Capital One in 2011 becoming the ninth Seminole baseball player to earn the distinction. He went on to garner Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors and is a two-time member of the All-ACC Academic team (2010 & 2011). Ramsey is a three-time recipient of the Golden Torch Award at FSU presented to the student-athlete on each team with the highest GPA. He is also a three-time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll, a five-time member of the Dean's List and has been named to the President's List at FSU three times for earning a 4.0 GPA in the spring 2010, fall 2011 and spring 2012 semesters. Ramsey earned his bachelor's degree in finance in April graduating magna cum laude.
Miller has performed well on the mound for the Seminoles in his first season as a full-time starter. The sophomore right hander is 5-1 with a 4.05 ERA in nine starts. He has tallied 33.1 innings this year striking out 33 and allowing opponents to hit .248 against him. At one point during the year, Miller threw 10.0 consecutive scoreless innings - the third longest streak on the team this year. The Lutz, Fla., native worked a career-high 6.0 innings in posting a win at Georgia Tech on April 8.
Miller, who is studying criminology at Florida State, was named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll during the 2010-11 semester. He is a two-time member of the Dean's List and was a member of the 3.0 GPA Club at FSU following the spring of 2011.
With their selection as first team Academic All-District ® honorees, Ramsey and Miller are now eligible to be named an Academic All-American ® by Capital One & CoSIDA.
