Malibu, CA - Two Seminoles, No. 59 Noemie Scharle and No. 64 Katie Rybakova, represented the garnet and gold today at the 2010 Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships in qualifying singles. Just two days after their run in doubles ended, Scharle defeated Fresno State's Marianne Jodoin to the tune of 6-2, 6-1 to advance on to the second round.
While Scharle will continue to play, her doubles partner Rybakova's had her time in Malibu ended early as she fell to Baylor's Sona Novakova 7-6(4), 6-4.
Scharle will play her second round match tomorrow at 2:15pm as she will face the tournament's fourth seed and No. 24 ranked player in the country in Duke's Nadine Fahoum.
Rybakova, Scharle and Federica Suess were the only current Seminoles to travel to the ITA All-American championships in 2009. Suess and her former doubles teammate Lauren McCreless (McFarlane) made it to the second round of qualifying doubles. Rybakova and Scharle teamed up in 2009 in doubles, but fell is the second round of the consolation draw.
