Pensacola, FL - Top-ranked Tallahassee Community College got back on the winning track Wednesday evening with an 8-0 shutout of Pensacola State College.
The Panhandle Conference Champions are now 41-7 overall and 15-3 in league play heading into the final conference series of the year against Gulf Coast State College.
Cody Alling and Patrick Riley combined on the five-hit shutout for the Eagles, who still have yet to drop consecutive games this season.
Tallahassee scored in each of the first four innings to stake Alling to a 5-0 lead. Alling, who prepped at Pensacola Catholic High School, got the start in his hometown on Wednesday and turned in a solid outing.
Alling pitched four innings of two-hit ball and struck out three before giving way to Riley (4-1), who tossed four scoreless innings of his own to earn the win.
Tallahassee manufactured a run in the first without the benefit of a hit. With one out and nobody on, Chad Mabini was hit by a pitch. He stole second, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on Clay Fenwick's ground out to short.
A leadoff walk to Matt Bahnick got things going for Tallahassee in the second. After John Price, Jr., lined out, James Abbatinozzi tripled to score Bahnick then came home on Cody Borup's double to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead.
After single runs in the third, fourth and sixth innings doubled the lead to 6-0, the Eagles finished the scoring with two runs in the eighth.
Anthony Torres, who reached on a one-out walk, eventually scored on another ground out by Fenwick. Mabini, who also walked, came home on Tyler York's double.
Fenwick was 1-for-3 with three RBI. York, Abbatinozzi and Borup had two hits each.
Tallahassee will travel to Gulf Coast State on Friday; the teams will return to Tallahassee for a 2 p.m. game Saturday.
