TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (November 7, 2010) - Ashley White had 14 points and 10 assists while Keri Thomas scored 13 to lead FCCAA No. 4 Tallahassee Community College past Miami Dade College, 84-65, in the Lady Eagles' season opener at the Eagledome on Sunday afternoon.

White and Thomas are the lone returnees from the Lady Eagles' 2009-10 team that advanced to the FCCAA/NJCAA Region VIII Championship Game.

White and Thomas' efforts led a balanced scoring attack for Tallahassee (1-0), as eight different players scored at least seven points in Sunday's season opener. Two other players reached double-figures - freshman Alexis Grant, who tallied 13 points, and sophomore transfer Jessica Monroe, who scored 12.

Sunday's game was tied five times in the first eight minutes before Tallahassee seized control. A 14-4 run gave the Lady Eagles a 29-19 lead at the 7:44 mark of the first half. Tallahassee eventually led by 14 before Miami Dade cut into that margin with a 10-2 run to close the half.

The Lady Eagles led 38-32 at the intermission.

The second half was dictated, in large part, by Tallahassee's defense. The Lady Eagles limited Miami Dade to 23.4 percent (11-of-47) from the floor. Meanwhile, Grant scored 11 of her 13 points in the second half as Tallahassee outscored the Lady Sharks, 46-33.

Tory Stephens scored a game-high 19 points for Miami Dade. Ashley Wilkes added 18 points and 13 rebounds.

Tallahassee returns to action on Friday, November 12 at the Collegiate Girl's Basketball Report Classic in Marianna, Fla. The Lady Eagles will play Hillsborough Community College at 1 p.m.
