Tallahassee, FL - Tallahassee Community College’s men’s basketball team has won five straight games and six of seven overall. On Tuesday, the recent winning streak helped the Eagles garner a No. 23 ranking in the National Junior College Athletic Association’s (NJCAA) Division I Men’s Basketball Poll.
It is Tallahassee’s first NJCAA ranking of the year.
The Eagles, 10-2 on the season, remained No. 4 in the weekly FCCAA Men’s Basketball Coaches’ Poll behind Palm Beach State College and Northwest Florida State College, who share this week’s No. 1 ranking, and No. 3 Chipola College.
Those same four teams are ranked in the NJCAA Top 25, but in a slightly different order. Northwest Florida State is the highest ranked team from Florida at No. 5. Chipola is two spots behind the Raiders at No. 7. Palm Beach State is one spot behind Tallahassee at No. 24.
The state of Florida, which makes up Region VIII of the NJCAA, is one of only two regions with four schools ranked in the Top 25. Region V – West Texas and New Mexico – also has four teams in this week’s national poll. No other region has more than two teams represented.
On the state level, four different teams, including Tallahassee, received first-place votes. Palm Beach State received nine, followed by Northwest Florida State with four. Chipola and Tallahassee received one each.
The Eagles return to action when they travel to Ocala, Fla., for the ninth annual Florida College’s Men’s Basketball Shootout on Saturday and Sunday, December 11 and 12.
Tallahassee plays the State College of Florida at 4 p.m. Saturday then closes the Shootout with an 8 p.m. tilt on Sunday against host College of Central Florida.
