Tallahassee, FL - Tallahassee Community College (2-0) scored the first ten points of the second half and pulled away from the College of Coastal Georgia (2-1), defeating the Mariners 83-59 in Friday's final game at the season-opening Wing Zone Tip-Off Classic.
Tallahassee ended the first half on an 11-5 run to take a 37-31 lead to the locker room. Four different players scored in the 10-0 run to open the second half, capped by Rashard McGill's layup at the 16:35 mark. Coastal Georgia never got closer than 15 points the rest of the night as Tallahassee shot a red-hot 63.3 percent (19-of-30) from the floor after the intermission.
The Eagles eventually extended their lead to as many as 33 on two different occasions, the last coming at the 2:06 mark on a bucket by Martaveous Smith.
For the second straight night, Tallahassee was the beneficiary of very balanced scoring. Sophomore transfer Derick Beltran came off the bench to score a team-high 14 points, leading five players in double-figures for Tallahassee.
Freshman Leek Leek recorded the first double-double of his young college career with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Freshmen Marterrace Brock and Christian Farmer scored 13 and 12 points, respectively, while sophomore transfer Richard Anderson added 10.
Ernest Fuller led all players with 19 points for Coastal Georgia.
Tallahassee will hit the road for the first time on Tuesday, November 9 when it travels to Barnesville, Ga., for a 7:30 p.m. tilt against Gordon (Ga.) College.
