TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (June 8, 2012) – Tallahassee Community College shortstop Amanda Ake earned her second All-America honor and pitcher Emily Smethurst, her first, as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) has released its NJCAA Division I All-Americans for 2012.

Ake and Smethurst were previously named First-team All-South Region by the NFCA, which made them eligible for All-America consideration.

Ake, a native of Carrolton, Ga., was previously named Third-team All-America by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). In 49 games in 2012, she batted .404 with 10 home runs and 36 RBI. She also swiped 23 bases in 29 attempts.

Smethurst, a native of Brighton East, VIC Australia, posted a 13-4 record and 1.24 ERA in the circle for the Eagles in 2012. In 22 appearances, she tallied 118.2 innings and struck out 91 batters.

Though their TCC careers are over, Ake and Smethurst will continue to share a common bond, as both have signed with Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) schools – Ake with Virginia Tech, Smethurst with Florida State.
