Tech Finishes 4th at Brickyard Collegiate

Macon, GA - John-Tyler Griffin shot his second consecutive 3-under-par 69 Sunday, and three Georgia Tech players placed among the top 10 individuals as the 8th-ranked Yellow Jackets finished fourth at the Brickyard Collegiate golf tournament.

Tech posted its best round of the tournament Sunday (1-under 287), but slipped two positions in the standings and finished the tournament at 3-over 867, 10 shots behind Georgia, which won the Brickyard for the third time in four years with a 7-under-par total of 857.

The Bulldogs, who shot 2-under 286 for the day, held off a charge by reigning NCAA champion Augusta State, which posted a 13-under-par round of 275 and finished just one stroke back (6-under 858. Florida State, 5-under for the day, finished third at 1-under 863.

Griffin shook off a poor first round to close strong with a pair of 69s. Sunday, the senior from Wilson, N.C., played a bogey-free back nine and had five birdies on his card for the round. He vaulted into a tie for eighth place individually at 3-under-par 216 along with junior James White, who matched or beat par for the third straight day (70).

Kyle Scott, who opened with a 68 to gain a share of the lead, shot 73 Sunday to finish in a three-way tie for fifth place at 4-under 212, six strokes back of medalist Russell Henley of Georgia.

Seth Reeves, a red-shirt freshman from Duluth, Ga., shined in his first collegiate event for the Yellow Jackets, posting rounds of 70-74-72 to tie for 16th place at even-par 216.

Georgia Tech returns to action Oct. 24-26 at the United States Collegiate Championship at the Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta, its last event of the fall.
