Atlanta, GA - Head basketball coach Paul Hewitt announced Tuesday that he has named seniors Maurice Miller and Lance Storrs, and junior Iman Shumpert, as captains for the 2010-11 Georgia Tech basketball team.
“These three veterans have given a lot of themselves during their careers at Georgia Tech, and we’re counting on them to provide our team with good leadership this season,” said Hewitt.
Miller, a 6-2 guard from Memphis, Tenn., enters his fourth season having played 84 games and started 37 during his career. He has averaged 5.9 points per game and ranks 17th on Tech’s career assist list with 267.
Storrs, a 6-5 guard from Decatur, Ga., has filled a variety of roles off the bench during his career from defensive specialist to perimeter shooter. He has played in 71 games and averaged 2.7 points. He has hit 37.6 percent of his three-point tries the last two seasons.
Shumpert, a 6-5 guard from Oak Park, Ill., has started 60 of the 61 games in which he has played in two seasons. He averaged 10.6 points per game as a freshman, 10.0 last season, ranks 16th on the Tech career list for assists, and 17th in steals (122).
