Tallahassee, FL -- The accolades for Florida State indoor volleyball’s 2012 signing class continue to pour in, as three members in middle blocker Sarah Burrington (Tampa, Fla/Riverview HS), outside hitter Leah Mikesky (Schulenburg, Texas/Schulenburg HS) and outside hitter Nicole Walch (Stuart, Fla./Martin County HS) were named to the VBM/Rox Girls’ Fab 50 list.
VBM, otherwise known as Volleyball Magazine, honored FSU’s three signing class members as part of the Top 50 senior girls’ youth talents in the country. FSU is one of just five NCAA programs that had at least three of its incoming student-athletes make the prominent list, joining Stanford, Texas, Washington and Iowa State.
FSU’s nationally-acclaimed recruiting class, which also includes heralded middle blocker Mara Green (McDonough, Ga./Eagles Landing Christian Academy), has garnered countless individual honors since signing with FSU. Most recently, each performer was recognized as a Prepvolleyball.com All-American, an honorable mention player or a special mention player. Burrington, Walch, Mikesky and Green were also included in Prepvolleyball.com’s Top 53 senior rankings.
Walch continued to earn more praise from PrepVolleyball.com, serving as a finalist for the amateur organization’s national player of the year award. She was named a MaxPreps Second-Team All-American in late December, while Burrington earned ESPNHS Second-Team All-America honors.
All four members were also selected to the sixth annual Under Armour Girls High School All-America Teams, as Burrington was one of just 24 first-team players who participated in the Under Armour All-America Volleyball Match & Skills Competition. The event was held at the Alamodome on Dec. 16 in San Antonio, Texas, in conjunction with the 2011 AVCA Annual Convention.
