Tallahassee, FL - Clint Trickett feels the difference, he knows the difference and he sees the difference. Trickett is no longer the backup.
"There's still competition," Trickett said. "I'm embracing it, looking forward to it. But that's probably the main difference."
A state champion at North Florida Christian, Trickett signed with the Seminoles four years ago hoping to one day lead his hometown team to the promised land. He showed signs of brilliance and inexperience as a fill-in, primarily watching EJ Manuel and Christian Ponder from the sideline.
"I feel like I've made a lot of gains," he said. "Size-wise, I've gained and maintained weight. Strength-wise, I've gotten a lot stronger."
Redshirt sophomore Jacob Coker and redshirt freshmen Jameis Winston and Sean Maguire are still in the running. But, a former 'Noles is giving number nine the edge come opening day.
"It'll be interesting to see who wins the job," said Christian Ponder, who now plays for the Minnesota Vikings. "Obviously Clint has the experience. But between Jameis and Coker, there's some talent there."
Trickett, though, is not worried about the first game, for now. He's just thinking about the next practice.
"Just gotta keep completing balls, keep moving the chains, keep leading the team," he said. "That's what Coach Fisher is looking for and that's what I'm trying to strive for."
