Tallahassee, FL -- Florida State head football coach Jimbo Fisher announced today that defensive tackle Darious Cummings and linebacker Jeff Luc (pronounced “Luke”) have been granted their releases to transfer to other institutions.

“Both Jeff and Darious are great young men,” Fisher said. “We wish them the best in their future endeavors.”

Cummings played in five career games for the Seminoles registering seven tackles and a half tackle for a loss. Before being hampered by a thumb injury that caused him to miss the majority of the 2011 season, Cummings played in two games and tallied four tackles. He missed spring practice after having an arthroscopic knee procedure. In 2010, he played in three games as a true freshman and recorded three tackles (two solo and one assisted), picking up two tackles in the season opening win over Samford and adding a tackle against Wake Forest.

Luc, a Port St. Lucie, Fla., native and Treasure Coast High School alum, played in 19 career games as a Seminole. He tallied 23 career tackles and three tackles for loss. In 2011, he played in 11 games and recorded 15 tackles and two tackles for loss. He had a career-matching five tackles against ULM. He added four tackles against Boston College. In 2010, he played in eight games for the Seminoles mainly on special teams but received some limited snaps on defense. He tallied eight tackles (two solo, six assisted) and set a career-high with five tackles (one solo, four assisted) at Oklahoma. Luc earned a community service award during halftime of the annual Garnet & Gold Spring Game earlier this month.

I've got to say that I'm shocked that Jeff Luc is leaving the program. He was one of the best coming out of high school and already had the size to contribute right away. I hope he does well at his next stop.
