UGA Tailback Isaiah Crowell Dismissed from Team

Athens, GA - Georgia Head Coach Mark Richt has dismissed sophomore tailback Isaiah Crowell from the team. Crowell was jailed on weapons charges early Friday morning, two of them felonies.

“We have a dedicated and committed group of men who are working hard to prepare for the coming season,” Richt said in a press release. “Our total focus will be directed toward the team and this effort."

Crowell, a Columbus, Ga. native, was pulled over and police officers claimed to have smelled marijuana in the car. The officers asked to check the car and found a gun.

Crowell was charged with a felony count of possessing a weapon in a school zone, a felony count of an altered ID mark on the gun and a misdemeanor count of carrying a concealed weapon.

Four other football players were in the car with Crowell at the time, including former Lowndes standout Josh Harvey-Clemons, but none were charged.

Crowell was released from jail this afternoon.

Last year, He ran 185 times for 850 yards after coming in as the nation's top running back. He didn't play a full season due to disciplinary issues and injuries.
