Birmingham, AL - Placing runners in both the 1st and 2nd all conference teams, the Blazers and Lady Blazers take an overall 5th place today in the Gulf South Conference Championship in Birmingham, Alabama.
Jesse Prince lead the men's team in 19th in a time of 27:26, making the 2nd team all-conference for the 8K run. Nathinael Wondimu was in 34th at 28:20 as Parker Childree tallied a 28:38 to come home in 36th. Dale Smith placed 39th with 28:53 with Ryan Winkel seconds behind in 44th at 29:24. Carlos Ponce rallied in at 58th with 31:56.
Valdosta State tallied 142 total points to finish 103 points behind race leader Alabama-Huntsville. West Alabama was second with 51 points, West Florida earned 3rd with 54 points while Christian Bros. (99) placed fourth above the Blazers (119).
Juliana Boehm covered the 5K women's course in a time of 20:04 to finish the race in 3rd to make the women's 1st team all-conference. Ashley Luther followed in a time of 21:10 to finish 26th, placing in the 2nd the women's 2nd team all-conference, while Danielle Jarnagin was 39th at 21:45. Taylor Harrington was 42nd at 21:56 while Rachel Gutierrez placed 50 th at 22:08. Sarah Turner finished 65th in 23:03 and Lisa Connelly rounded out the squad in 71st at 23:49.
Valdosta State registered 119 points to finish 75 points behind race champion West Florida. Alabama-Huntsville was second with 62 followed by West Georgia with 66 and Delta State with 105. The Lady Blazers took home fifth place.
Valdosta State returns to action Saturday, November 3 at the NCAA South Region Championship in Huntsville, Alabama.
