VSU Volleyball Outpaces USC-Aiken

Savannah, GA - In the first Valdosta State match of the Armstrong Atlantic State volleyball tournament, the Blazers combined with South Carolina-Aiken to put on a show. The two teams went the distance, but Valdosta State came out on top to win, 3-2, and move to 7-2 on the season.

The Blazers fell in the first set, but pushed the Pacers to extra points, 27-25. In the second set, Valdosta State won a close one, 25-23. The Pacers bounced back in the third, 25-21, but the Blazers answered in the fourth with the same score. Valdosta State had to hold off two USC-Aiken match points in the final set before overtaking the Pacers, 16-14.

Katie Onushko led all players with an outstanding 22 kills. Chelsea Logan put up 11 kills while Tania Tauiliili and Jennifer Beatty both tallied 10 kills.

Onushko doubled up with 12 digs, but libero Macy Markham paced the team with 23 digs in the match. Krista Bradford added 18. Freshman setter Ashley Lala led all players with 56 assists.

Saturday, Valdosta State will face the host Armstrong Atlantic State and Flagler at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
