Tallahassee, FL - Florida State redshirt freshman quarterback Jameis Winston captured a pair of national awards the day after throwing for 393 yards and five touchdowns in the No. 8-ranked Seminoles’ 63-0 victory over No. 25 Maryland on Saturday.
Winston was named the Walter Camp Offensive Player of the Week, while Athlon Sports tabbed Winston as the National Player of the Week and the National Freshman of the Week for the third time.
In addition to tallying season highs in passing yards and touchdowns, Winston completed 23 of 32 passes and led FSU to 614 yards of total offense against a Maryland defense that came into the game ranked sixth in the country in total defense.
Winston leads the ACC in pass efficiency (213.9), completion percentage (73.2), yards per attempt (11.7), passing touchdowns (17) and points responsible for (114). He has thrown for at least 300 yards and four touchdowns in all three of his ACC games this season.
Winston ranks second in the nation in pass efficiency and fifth in completion percentage.
Athlon Sports also named Winston its ACC Offensive Player and Freshman of the Week, while first-year defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt was recognized as the ACC’s coordinator of the week.
Winston is the third FSU player, and first offensive honoree, since 2004 to earn Walter Camp Player of the Week honors, joining former Seminoles linebacker A.J. Nicholson (Sept. 18, 2005) and defensive end Everette Brown (Nov. 23, 2008).
