SAVANNNAH, Ga. (Dec. 22) - Antonia Bennett scored a game high 18 points as the Florida A&M University’s Women’s Basketball snapped their three-game losing streak in a 52-48 win over Savannah State, here Wednesday evening at Tiger Arena.
Tameka McKelton was the only other Lady Rattler to score in double-figures with 13 points. Qiana Donald led the Lady Rattlers on the board with nine points, while Myeshia Simms dished out a game high seven assists.
Ezinne Kalu led the Lady Tigers in scoring as she scored a team high 12 points. Shawanda Hanton dropped in 11 points for the SSU, while both Darice Fountaine and Brittany Caded finished with 10 points each. Rikiah Gatlin led the Lady Tigers on the boards with six, while Hanton dished out a team high five assists.
Cade made a layup for the Lady Tigers with 1:23 go in the game to cut FAMU’s lead to 49-48.
Then Simms would connect on the front end of a one-and-one to give the Lady Rattlers a 50-48 lead with 14 seconds left in the game.
Shekeira Copeland would then hit a pair of free throws for the 52-48 final with five seconds left in the game.
In the first half, SSU (5-7) built a 11-6 lead as Gatlin connected on a layup with 15:21 to in the first.
FAMU (4-5) would take the lead, 14-13 on a Bennett three pointer with 12:48 to go in the half.
Fountaine would score a field goal for the Lady Tigers with 1:19 to give SSU a 27-24 lead at the break.
FAMU finished the first half shooting 27.3 percent (9-of-33), while SSU shot 44.4 percent (12-of-27).
The Lady Rattlers will return to action on December 29 and December 30 as they will participate in the Iowa State Tournament in Ames, Iowa.
