DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 3) - Bethune-Cookman completed their sweep of the Florida A&M Baseball team as the Wildcats scored two runs in the eight, for the 3-2 win here Sunday afternoon at Jackie Robinson Park.
Both team finished with seven hits as Kendall Weeks tallied two hits for the Rattlers, while Eros Modena finished with two hits for the Wildcats.
Byron Ferguson (1-0) picked up the win for B-CU as he pitched two scoreless innings in relief, striking out one in the six batters he faced, while Anthony Stokes made the start for the Wildcats as gave up three hits, one earned runs and striking out four in the four innings on the mound. In addition, Jordan Dailey picked up his second save of the season as pitched one inning and striking out one in the three batters he faced.
Kelvin Singletary (0-3) took the loss for FAMU as he pitched one inning of relief, allowing three hits, two earned runs in the six batters he faced, while William Carrasco made the start for the Rattlers, giving up four hits, one earned run and striking out two in the six and one-third innings on the mound.
Weeks scored the Rattlers first run of the game as he scored on a Reginald Grant ground out to shortstop in the top the third inning.
FAMU increased their lead in the top of the sixth inning Ryan Debi collected his first RBI of the season on a single to left center, scoring Singletary, giving the Rattlers a 2-0 lead.
B-CU cut FAMU’s lead to in the bottom of the sixth as David Lee scored on a Matt Noble single to the left side, making the score 2-1 in the favor of the Rattlers.
The Wildcats scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth as Eros Modenda scored on an Anthony Stokes sacrifice fly to center field, followed by a Noble double to left center scoring Lee for the 3-2 finale.
FAMU will return to action on Tuesday, March 5 as they will host Florida Atlantic in a doubleheader at Moore-Kittles field with the first pitched scheduled to thrown at 3:30 p.m.
