Tallahassee, FL -- With No. 21 Florida State clinging to a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning, redshirt junior Amber Bryant came through with a much-needed two-run double with two outs to help the Seminole softball team get past Florida A&M, 5-3, on Tuesday evening at JoAnne Graf Field.

The extra base-hit was substantial for the Seminoles (36-8) because Florida A&M would end up notching its third run of the game in the subsequent inning on an RBI double down the left field line from Alyssa Weaver. Bryant’s two RBIs marked the first multiple-RBI game of her career. The Pomona, Calif., native is now batting .370 (10-for-27) this season.

“If you look at the entire game, Amber’s double was essentially the play that won the game for us,” head coach Lonni Alameda said. “She liked what she saw and swung away at the first pitch and made something happen for us. She stepped up big for us tonight.”

Performing well out of the No. 6 spot was junior Kirstin Austin, who finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Austin now raises her batting average to .333 (18-for-54) and continues to aid FSU’s batting order with her consistent approach at the plate. The Temple Terrace, Fla., native has led the Seminoles in hitting over the last 11 games, going 12-for-27 (.444) during that span. She has recorded three multiple-hit games over that time frame.

Kelly Hensley went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Morgan Bullock also recorded two base hits with one run. FSU pounded out 10 base hits versus three Rattler pitchers, its seventh double-digit hit performance this season.

Getting the win for FSU was redshirt sophomore Jessica Nori (3-0), who delivered five innings and allowed two earned runs while surrendering seven hits and striking out three. Freshman Lacey Waldrop picked up her second save of the season by fanning six of her nine batters faced in the final two innings. Both throwers combined to strand eight Florida A&M base runners.

An RBI single up the middle by Erika Leonard got FSU in the scoring column in the second inning. With runners on first and second base, the Cincinnati, Ohio, native drove a full-count pitch to the outfield to score Courtney Senas. Senas lined a single to left field in her at-bat and reached second base on an opposite-field single down the left field line from Austin.

Hensley followed with an RBI single through the left side to plate Austin. However, Florida A&M would notch a run in the third inning and tied the game in the fourth when Tera Gainer scored on a passed ball.

Hensley provided another important hit when she singled up the middle to bring home a run and give FSU a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning, setting up Bryant’s two-run hit.

The Seminoles return with a home game versus South Alabama on Thursday evening at 6 p.m. The single-game matchup features the “Home Wrecker Home Run Derby” brought to you by Moe’s Southwest Grill directly following the 6 p.m. game.
