FAMU Using Preseason as Motivation

Tallahassee, FL -- The Rattlers aren't looking too much in to the preseason hype. This past weekend, FAMU was picked to finish fourth in the conference, what players say, is just extra motivation.

"You can't take too much attention to it because you get side tracked on your goals," says senior nose guard Padric Scott. "Your goals is to take every game by time and not care what the rankings say. If it were up to what the rankings say then there will be no need for the x's and o's or going out on the field and putting the pads to the test."

"If you're in the top four or five, I think that shows a lot of respect especially because, again, the number five team from last year, ended up winning it," says head coach Joe Taylor.

Which was Norfolk State, who was selected as the preseason favorite. Individually, the Rattlers had five players earn first team all MEAC selections, four of which played high school football in Tallahassee.

"It shows that Tallahassee also has a lot of talent also and that a lot of coaches don't recruit from Tallahassee but it shows that Tallahassee does have talent," adds sophomore defensive back Terry Johnson.

"Our blue print coming in, part of our strategy was to make sure that we recruit locally first, and it's paying off," Taylor adds.

As for now, the weight room is where you'll find most of the team. Getting ready for the start of practice, on August 6th.
