FAMU Baseball Splits with Aggies

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 2) - The Florida A&M University Baseball team scored two runs in the seventh and two runs in the eight as they rallied to a 7-6 win over North Carolina A&T in game one and dropped a 6-2 decision to the Aggies in game two, here Saturday afternoon in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader at Moore-Kittles Field.
N.C. A&T (8-18, 2-2 MEAC) outhit FAMU (9-22, 1-4 MEAC) 11-9 in game one.

The Rattlers were paced by Cory Franklin and Adam Decker as they both finished with two hits each, while the Aggies had four players to finish with two hits apiece.
Stephen Dollar (2-0) picked up the win for the win FAMU as he pitched two scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out three, while Paulino Esterlin(3-2) received the loss for N.C. A&T as he gave up nine hits, six earned runs and striking out four in eight innings on the mound.

FAMU grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Reginald Grant scored on Franklin single to right field. Then Tobi Adeyemi would score on a Jarryd Reid ground out to first.

N.C. A&T would cut FAMU’s lead to 2-1 on a Kelvin Freeman sacrifice fly to right field scoring Xavier Macklin in the top of the second.
The Aggies made the score 5-2 as they plated four runs in the top of the third inning as both Andre McKoy and Carvell Copeland scored on a Dario Little single to left field. Then Little would score on the Macklin two-run homer to left field.

N.C. A&T pushed across one more run in the top of the fifth as Little scored on a FAMU throwing error.

The Rattlers picked up a run in the bottom of the fifth as David Duncan scored on Aggie infielder’s error, cutting N.C.A&T ‘s lead to 6-3.

FAMU picked a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh as Duncan scored on a Adeyemi sacrifice fly to centerfield. Then Franklin would ground out to second base scoring Adam Decker, cutting the Aggies lead to 6-5.

The Rattlers would take the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning as Antonio Kilpatrick scored on a Justin Abney double to tie the game at 6-6. Then FAMU would score their final run for the 7-6 final as Scott Sheplak scored on a Duncan sacrifice fly to center field.

In a game two, the Rattlers and the Aggies both finished with eight hits each.

Adeyemi led the Rattlers from the plate as he finished with three hits, while both Marquis Riley and Andre McKoy finished with two hits each for the Aggies

Nick Oelker (4-2) receive the win for N.C. A&T as he went the distance, giving up eight hits, two earned runs and striking out seven in seven innings, while Jose Linton took the loss for FAMU, allowing eight hits, two earned runs and striking out five in seven innings on the mound.

Macklin gave the N.C. A&T a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a three-run homer to left field.

The Aggies scored a three runs in the top of the third inning to take a 6-0 lead.

FAMU would score a run in the bottom of the third as Adeyemi scored on a Franklin single and scored a run in the bottom of the fifth as Adeyemi scored on Franklin double for the 6-2 final.

The Rattlers will conclude their three-game series with North Carolina A&T on Sunday, April 3 in a 12 p.m. start.
