ORANGEBURG, S.C. (Jan. 31) - The Florida A&M Men’s Basketball team dropped a 90-75 decision to South Carolina State, here Monday evening at the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
Both Amin Stevens and Avery Moore led FAMU (7-14, 2-6 MEAC) in scoring as they both finished with 19 points each. Stevens led the Rattlers on the boards with seven.
SCSU (6-15, 2-6 MEAC) had a quintet of Bulldogs to score in double-figures as Brandon Riley scored a game high 22 points to lead scorers. Presano Bell finished with 15 points, followed by Carrio Bennett with 11. Both Tyvon Williams and Westley Telafare finished with 10 points each to round out the cast of Bulldogs to score in double-figures. Williams led the Bulldogs in assists with a game high 10.
Cecil Bent tied the game at 14-14 on a layup with 11:09 to go in the first.
Larry Jackson would tie the game at 29-29 on a put back with 5:11 to go.
The Bulldogs would close out the first half with a 14-5 run to take a 43-34 into the break as Joe Ikhinmin connected on a pair of free throws with 1:35 to go in the half.
FAMU finished the first half shooting 37.9 percent (11-of-29) from the field, while SCSH shot 53.6 percent (15-of-38).
The Bulldogs opened the second half with a 10-3 run as they took a 53-39 lead on a Bell free throw with 17:11 to go in the game.
A Riley three pointer with 8:15 to go in the game would give SCSU an 80-54 lead.
Jeremy Dean would score the Rattlers final basket of the game for the 90-75 final with 28 second left.
FAMU will return to action as they will host Morgan State on Saturday, Feb. 5 at the Lawson Center in a 6 p.m. start.
