TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Feb. 26) - The Florida A&M Softball scored 15 runs in two games as the Lady Rattlers sweep Savannah State in a doubleheader winning the first game 6-1 and the second game 9-3, here Saturday afternoon at the Lady Rattler Softball Complex.
FAMU (7-5) in game one tallied seven hits, while SSU (0-8) finished with four.
Jennifer Lindsey (3-2) picked up the win for the Lady Rattlers in the first game as she gave up four hits, one earned runs and striking out nine in six innings of work, while Shannon Reno (0-2) received the loss for Lady Tigers as she gave up six hits, five earned runs and struck out three in four and one-third innings of work.
Tera Gainer had the hot bat for FAMU as she went two-for-three from the plate scoring one run and driving in a game five RBIs. Both Ashanti Shepherd and Jasmin Donaldson also finished with two hits each for FAMU.
SSU had four Lady Tigers to finish with one hit each.
The Lady Tigers grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning as Shamyra Adams scored on a Shannon Reno single to right field.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Lady Rattlers would recapture the lead on a Gainer grand slam, making the score 4-1 in favor of the Lady Rattlers.
FAMU would pick up a run in the bottom of the fifth inning on Gainer single scoring Corinne Gordon, followed by a SSU infielder’s error scoring Lindsey in the bottom of the sixth inning for the 6-1 final.
In the second game, the FAMU bats would come alive as they tallied nine hits, whereas SSU finished with six hits.
Arianna Stewart had the hot bat for the Lady Rattlers in the second game as she went a perfect four-for-four from the plate scoring three runs with one RBI.
India Morgan finished the game three-for-four from plate scoring two runs to lead SSU.
Robinson (4-3) picked up the win as she toed the mound for the Lady Rattlers giving up six hits, three earned runs and striking out four in seven innings, while Madison Hedderly (0-5) received the loss for the Lady Tigers allowing eight hits, four earned runs and striking out three in four and two-thirds innings.
SSU plated a pair of runs in the top of the first inning as India Morgan as stole home, followed by a Hedderl y sacrifice fly scoring Megan Uhrman.
FAMU tied the game at 2-2 in their half of the first inning on a Tenisha Dixon inside the park home run, scoring Jasmine Donaldson on the play.
Erika Garcia gave the lady Rattlers a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the second as she scored on a Lady Tiger infielder’s error.
FAMU would then go on to score three runs in the bottom of the third, two runs in the fourth and one run in the sixth, while SSU picked up a run in the top of the third inning for the 9-3 final.
The Lady Rattler will conclude their three game series against Savannah State on Sunday, February 27 at the Lady Rattler Softball Complex in a 1 p.m. start.
