TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Feb. 27) - The Florida A&M Softball team completed their sweep of Savannah State as they defeated Lady Tigers, 5-1 in their final game of a three-game series, here Sunday afternoon at the Lady Rattlers Softball Complex.
FAMU (8-5) finished the game with a game high eight hits, while SSU (0-9) tallied three hits.
Whitney Robinson (5-3) picked up her fifth win of the season for the Lady Rattlers as she gave up one run, three hits and struck out one in five innings on the mound, while Tiffany Davies received the loss for the Lady Tigers, allowing eight hits, five earned runs and striking out two in six innings.
FAMU was paced by Jasmin Donaldson as she went two-for-three from the plate scoring two runs, while driving in a run.
SSU had three Lady Tigers to finish with a hit each.
India Morgan gave the Lady Tigers a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as she scored on a FAMU infielder’s error.
The Lady Rattlers reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the first as Robinson tripled to right center scoring Donaldson. Then Robinson would score on a Taylor West ground out to second giving FAMU a 2-1 lead.
FAMU picked up three more runs in the bottom of the fifth as Donaldson singled up the middle scoring Ericka Garcia, followed by a Dixon single scoring both Ashanti Shepherd and Donaldson for the 5-1 final.
The Lady Rattlers will return to action on Wednesday, March 2 as they will travel to Jacksonville, Fla., to take on the University of North Florida in 4 p.m. start.
