TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Nov. 7) - The Florida A&M University Volleyball rolled to a 4-1 (25-17, 25-10, 22-25, 25-12) over arch-rival Bethune-Cookman, here Sunday afternoon at the Lawson Center, broadcasted live on ESPNU.
FAMU (10-13, 6-1 MEAC) finished the match with 47 kills, while B-CU (7-24, 2-5 MEAC) tallied 32.
The Lady Rattlers had a pair of players to finish in double-digit kills with Katherine Huanec leading the way with 15, followed by Maria Ceccarelli with 12. Diana Gonzalez led FAMU in assists with 38, while Susan Egoavil led the team in digs with 21.
Krysta Gardner led the Lady Wildcats in kills with 10. Both Frances Rodriquez and Alexis Bliese led the Lady Wildcats in assists with 11 each, while Jennifer Jimenez finished with a team high nine digs.
The Lady Wildcats took a 7-3 lead in the first set, capped off by a Kat Agson kill.
FAMU would then rattle off four straight points to tie the set at 7-7 on a Pamela Barrera kill.
B-CU went a 4-1 run to take a 13-8 lead capped off by a Kaiyana Johnson kill.
The Lady Rattlers would tie the set at 15-15 on a Hunaec kill, capped off by a 7-2 run by FAMU.
FAMU would end the set with on a 10-1 run for the 25-17 win.
In the second set, the Lady Rattlers would open up with a10-4 lead, capped off by a kill a Barerra.
FAMU would then outscore the B-CU 15-6 for the 25-10 win.
The Lady Rattlers opened the fourth set with a 10-2 lead and would go to cruise to a 25-12 win over the Lady Wildcats.
In a nip and tuck third set, FAMU would tie the set at 21-21 on B-CU service error.
The Lady Wildcats would outscore the Lady Rattlers 3-1 for the 25-22 win to force a fourth set.
FAMU will return to action on Sunday, Nov. 14 as they will host Norfolk State in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference matchup at the Lawson in a 3 p.m. start.
