The Florida A&M Homecoming Parade will take place this Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 8:00a.m. The parade will start at the intersection of Monroe Street and Brevard Street. It will continue south down Monroe ending at Gaines Street. Parade-goers are encouraged to bring chairs and set up along the parade route to view the 100 plus entries participating in this exciting event.

There will be ample parking for the parade, but get there early as the actual parade route will be shutdown at 7:30 a.m. for staging of floats and participants. All parking, including handicapped vehicles can park in the Kleman Plaza garage on Duval Street. All metered spots in the downtown area will be open, with no charge for parking.

The parade route will be closed until approximately 11:00 a.m. TPD is asking drivers to plan an alternate route to arrive at their destination during the parade.

“We are excited to be participating in this wonderful event and hope everyone enjoys this one of kind parade honoring the FAMU experience” said Police Chief Dennis Jones.

Are you saying FAMU brings in more money??? Maybe more money in the terms of Federal aid like Pell Grants and federal school loans that will most likely be defaulted on.... You can always tell when money has posted from school aid accounts... the mall is full...and campus (TCC AND FAMU at least) are EMPTY.

I wonder what the cleaning bill is going to be after their parade? Its sad that you FAMU supporters arent able to leave your trash in the provided trash cans...is that extra two feet of walking too much for you?

I wondered the same thing from the Indy 500 supporters. I have send them dropped trash right in front of a trash can...how far is that?

It is an historical fact that whites, particularly Southern whites, covered themselves with glory in regard to black Africans and their descendants, in the period from 1619-1945. Surprisingly enough, many whites would like to start fresh with a clean sheet of paper and clean hands.

I personally find the way young children are encouraged to dance like stripper's offensive,( at the parade). Instilling good family morals from the start. Not sure I have ever seen anything like that at a FSU parade. I dread this weekend each year, as I know to stay away from anything and anywhere the thugs will congregate. Let's just wait for the headlines Sunday morning, pretty sure someone will be shot and someone will be robbed.

Met your daugher is the main one running behind those thugs. Is this why you dread it so much?

Most of them won't see it. The internet connection on FAMU campus is too slow to open a file that large. It's true!
